MIT, Harvard, and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts announce the formation of a loose association of interested U.S. state and local governments to promote sharing of software under open source licenses.

Some efforts have been made by the federal government and states to create RSS feeds for emergency notifications and alerts. Much information is available on traditional websites, but surprisingly little is being syndicated. Independents outline how government and business can work together building RSS feeds to make our lifestyles and communities safer.

The Award for Best Government Website went to www.govt.nz at the 2003 NetGuide Awards in Auckland on November 14. New Zealand's State Service Commission�s E-government Unit develops the portal and has authored a RSS standard for press releases and event-related content published by government agencies.

The State of Missouri has created a number of departmental RSS news feeds. The most recent headlines of most feeds, but not all, are aggregated to a centralized agency news portal. Every hour the State Webmaster scours feeds on her agency servers to update this portal.

A member of Utah's RSS project team asked this week, "what can I read to get up to speed about RSS?" The answer is visit RSS Winterfest! The two-day RSS Winterfest webcast takes place this coming Wednesday and Thursday, January 21-22. It offers a number of programs having direct application to governments planning RSS syndication projects.

Jeremy Zawodny has announced how to ping Yahoo's RSS database when you post to your Movable Type weblog. Yahoo joins weblogs.com, blo.gs, and several others in offering the XML-RPC ping interface. Pinging has the advantage of getting your content much faster into those sites that crawl RSS feeds for news.

Sun Microsystems has announced, according to Alison Taylor of ITWorldCanada, that it will participate in driving open standards for RSS to bring together the fragmented RSS communities. Sun, under Tim Bray's visionary guidance, will develop RSS for internal communications as well as delivering external information among developers, customers and partners.

報告書は、NLTの2024年の年次識字調査（Annual Literacy Survey）に対する5歳から18歳までの子どもと若者からの7万6,131件の回答に基づき作成されました。

主な調査結果として、以下のようなものが挙げられています。

・ 余暇に読書を楽しんでいると答えたのは、8～18歳では3人に1人（34.6％）であった。2023年から8.8ポイント減少しており、2005年の調査開始以来の最低水準であった。
・ 毎日余暇に何かしらの読書をしていると答えたのは、8～18歳では5人に1人（20.5％）であった。2023年から7.5ポイント減少しており、2005年の調査開始以来の最低水準であった。
・ 8～14歳では、読書を楽しんでいる子どもや若者は、読書を楽しんでいない子どもや若者よりも、読解力が高かった。

同会議には、2024年4月に出された研究情報のオープン化に関するバルセロナ宣言（“Barcelona Declaration on Open Research Information”）の署名者や支援団体らが参加しました。オープンな研究情報の作成や管理、利活用に関する経験やベストプラクティスが共有されるとともに、宣言の内容を実現するためのロードマップ策定に向けた議論が行われたとあります。
