si Crystal structure, synthesis and thermal properties of bis(4-benzoylpyridine-κN)bis(isothiocyanato-κN)bis(methanol-κN)iron(II) By scripts.iucr.org Published On :: 2020-01-31 In the crystal structure of the title compound, [Fe(NCS)2(C12H9NO)2(CH4O)2], the FeII cations are octahedrally coordinated by two N atoms of 4-benzoylpyridine ligands, two N atoms of two terminal isothiocyanate anions and two methanol molecules into discrete complexes that are located on centres of inversion. These complexes are linked via intermolecular O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds between the methanol O—H H atoms and the carbonyl O atoms of the 4-benzoylpyridine ligands, forming layers parallel to (101). Powder X-ray diffraction proved that a pure sample was obtained but that this compound is unstable and transforms into an unknown crystalline phase within several weeks. However, the solvent molecules can be removed by heating in a thermobalance, which for the aged sample as well as the title compound leads to the formation of a compound with the composition Fe(NCS)2(4-benzoylpyridine)2, which exhibits a powder pattern that is similar to that of Mn(NCS)2(4-benzoylpyridine)2. si Synthesis and crystal structure of (2S,4aR,8aR)-6-oxo-2,4a,6,8a-tetrahydropyrano[3,2-b]pyran-2-carboxamide By scripts.iucr.org Published On :: 2020-04-30 The pyranopyran amide (2S,4aR,8aR)-6-oxo-2,4a,6,8a-tetrahydropyrano[3,2-b]pyran-2-carboxamide, C9H9NO4, 3, was prepared by a chemoselective hydration of the corresponding nitrile, 2, using a heterogeneous catalytic method based on copper(II) supported on molecular sieves, in the presence of acetaldoxime. Compound 3 belongs to a new class of pyranopyrans that possess antibacterial and phytotoxic activity. Crystallographic analysis of 3 shows a bent structure for the cis-fused bicyclic pyranopyran, similar to nitrile 2. Evidence of an intramolecular hydrogen bond involving the amide group and ring oxygen was not observed; however, two separate intermolecular hydrogen-bonding interactions were observed between the amide hydrogen atoms and adjacent carbonyl oxygen atoms along the b- and a-axis directions. The latter interaction may also be supported by an intermolecular C—H⋯O hydrogen bond. The lattice is filled out by close-packed layers of this hydrogen-bonded network along the c-axis direction, related from one to the next by a 21 screw axis. Full Article text
si Crystal structure of a nickel compound comprising two nickel(II) complexes with different ligand environments: [Ni(tren)(H2O)2][Ni(H2O)6](SO4)2 By scripts.iucr.org Published On :: 2020-02-06 The title compound, diaqua[tris(2-aminoethyl)amine]nickel(II) hexaaquanickel(II) bis(sulfate), [Ni(C6H18N4)(H2O)2][Ni(H2O)6](SO4)2 or [Ni(tren)(H2O)2][Ni(H2O)6](SO4)2, consists of two octahedral nickel complexes within the same unit cell. These metal complexes are formed from the reaction of [Ni(H2O)6](SO4) and the ligand tris(2-aminoethyl)amine (tren). The crystals of the title compound are purple, different from those of the starting complex [Ni(H2O)6](SO4), which are turquoise. The reaction was performed both in a 1:1 and 1:2 metal–ligand molar ratio, always yielding the co-precipitation of the two types of crystals. The asymmetric unit of the title compound, which crystallizes in the space group Pnma, consists of two half NiII complexes and a sulfate counter-anion. The mononuclear cationic complex [Ni(tren)(H2O)2]2+ comprises an Ni ion, the tren ligand and two water molecules, while the mononuclear complex [Ni(H2O)6]2+ consists of another Ni ion surrounded by six coordinated water molecules. The [Ni(tren)(H2O)2] and [Ni(H2O)6] subunits are connected to the SO42− counter-anions through hydrogen bonding, thus consolidating the crystal structure. Full Article text
si Bulky 2,6-disubstituted aryl siloxanes and a disilanamine By scripts.iucr.org Published On :: 2020-02-06 The crystal structures of 5-bromo-1,3-di-tert-butyl-2-[(trimethylsilyl)oxy]benzene, C17H29BrOSi, (I), 1,3-di-tert-butyl-2-[(trimethylsilyl)oxy]benzene, C17H30OSi, (II), and N-(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)-1,1,1-trimethyl-N-(trimethylsilyl)silanamine, C18H35NSi2, (III), are reported. Compound (I) crystallizes in space group P21/c with Z' = 1, (II) in Pnma with Z' = 0.5 and (III) in Cmcm with Z' = 0.25. Consequently, the molecules of (II) are constrained by m and those of (III) by m2m site symmetries. Despite this, both (I) and (II) are distorted towards mild boat conformations, as is typical of 2,6-di-tert-butyl-substituted phenyl compounds, reflecting the high local steric pressure of the flanking alkyl groups. Compound (III) by contrast is planar and symmetric, and this lack of distortion is compatible with the lower steric pressure of the flanking 2,6-diisopropyl substituents. Full Article text

In each compound, the metal ion is coordinated by the four secondary N atoms of the macrocyclic ligand, which adopts the most energetically stable trans-III conformation, and the mutually trans O atoms of the carboxylate in a slightly tetragonally distorted trans-NiN4O2 octahedral coordination geometry. The crystals of both types of compounds are composed of parallel polymeric chains of the macrocyclic cations linked by the anions of the acid running along the [101] and [110] directions in I and II, respectively. In I, each polymeric chain is linked to four neighbouring ones by hydrogen bonding between the NH groups of the macrocycle and the carboxylate O atoms, thus forming a three-dimensional supramolecular network. In II, each polymeric chain contacts with only two neighbours, forming hydrogen bonds between the partially protonated carboxylic groups of the bridging ligand. As a result, a lamellar structure is formed with the layers oriented parallel to the (1overline{1}1) plane. Full Article text

The previous structure reports of Pr5Si4 were only based on powder X-ray diffraction data [Smith et al. (1967). Acta Cryst. 22 940–943; Yang et al. (2002b). J. Alloys Compd. 339, 189–194; Yang et al., (2003). J. Alloys Compd. 263, 146–153]. On the other hand, the structure of Nd5Si4 has been determined from powder data [neutron; Cadogan et al., (2002). J. Phys. Condens. Matter, 14, 7191–7200] and X-ray [Smith et al. (1967). Acta Cryst. 22 940–943; Yang et al. (2002b). J. Alloys Compd. 339, 189–194; Yang et al., (2003). J. Alloys Compd. 263, 146–153] and single-crystal data with isotropic atomic displacement parameters [Roger et al., (2006). J. Alloys Compd. 415, 73–84]. In addition, the anisotropic atomic displacement parameters for all atomic sites have been determined for the first time. These compounds are confirmed to have the tetragonal Zr5Si4-type structure (space group: P41212), as reported previously (Smith et al., 1967). The structure is built up by distorted body-centered cubes consisting of Pr(Nd) atoms, which are linked to each other by edge-sharing to form a three-dimensional framework. This framework delimits zigzag channels in which the silicon dimers are situated. Full Article text

si Crystal structure, Hirshfeld surface analysis and computational study of 2-chloro-N-[4-(methylsulfanyl)phenyl]acetamide By scripts.iucr.org Published On :: 2020-03-31 In the title compound, C9H10ClNOS, the amide functional group –C(=O)NH– adopts a trans conformation with the four atoms nearly coplanar. This conformation promotes the formation of a C(4) hydrogen-bonded chain propagating along the [010] direction. The central part of the molecule, including the six-membered ring, the S and N atoms, is fairly planar (r.m.s. deviation of 0.014). The terminal methyl group and the C(=O)CH2 group are slightly deviating out-of-plane while the terminal Cl atom is almost in-plane. Hirshfeld surface analysis of the title compound suggests that the most significant contacts in the crystal are H⋯H, H⋯Cl/Cl⋯H, H⋯C/C⋯H, H⋯O/O⋯H and H⋯S/S⋯H. π–π interactions between inversion-related molecules also contribute to the crystal packing. DFT calculations have been performed to optimize the structure of the title compound using the CAM-B3LYP functional and the 6–311 G(d,p) basis set. The theoretical absorption spectrum of the title compound was calculated using the TD–DFT method. The analysis of frontier orbitals revealed that the π–π* electronic transition was the major contributor to the absorption peak in the electronic spectrum. Full Article text

The structure of 2 consists of tetrameric Na4(H-L1)4 subunits in which each Na+ cation is bound to two H-L1 bridging bidentate ligands and these subunits are connected into a polymeric chain by two of the four oxazoline O atoms bridging to Na+ cations in the adjacent tetramer. This results in two 4-coordinate and two 5-coordinate Na+ cations within each tetrameric unit. The structure of 3 consists of a distorted octahedron where the bite angle of ligand L1 ranges between 74.72 (11) and 77.79 (11) degrees. In 1-(4-azidophenyl)-3-[5-(2,4-dichlorophenoxy)-3-methyl-1-phenyl-1H-pyrazol-4-yl]prop-2-en-1-one, C25H17Cl2N5O2, (IId), the dichlorophenyl group is disordered over two sets of atomic sites having occupancies 0.55 (4) and 0.45 (4), and the molecules are linked by a single C—H⋯O hydrogen bond to form cyclic, centrosymmetric R22(20) dimers. Similar dimers are formed in 1-(4-azidophenyl)-3-[3-methyl-5-(naphthalen-2-yloxy)-1-phenyl-1H-pyrazol-4-yl]prop-2-en-1-one, C29H21N5O2, (IIe), but here the dimers are linked into a chain of rings by two independent C—H..π(arene) hydrogen bonds. Comparisons are made between the molecular conformations within both series of compounds. Full Article text
si 2-[(2,4,6-Trimethylbenzene)sulfonyl]phthalazin-1(2H)-one: crystal structure, Hirshfeld surface analysis and computational study By scripts.iucr.org Published On :: 2020-04-21 The X-ray crystal structure of the title phthalazin-1-one derivative, C17H16N2O3S {systematic name: 2-[(2,4,6-trimethylbenzene)sulfonyl]-1,2-dihydrophthalazin-1-one}, features a tetrahedral sulfoxide-S atom, connected to phthalazin-1-one and mesityl residues. The dihedral angle [83.26 (4)°] between the organic substituents is consistent with the molecule having the shape of the letter V. In the crystal, phthalazinone-C6-C—H⋯O(sulfoxide) and π(phthalazinone-N2C4)–π(phthalazinone-C6) stacking [inter-centroid distance = 3.5474 (9) Å] contacts lead to a linear supramolecular tape along the a-axis direction; tapes assemble without directional interactions between them. The analysis of the calculated Hirshfeld surfaces confirm the importance of the C—H⋯O and π-stacking interactions but, also H⋯H and C—H⋯C contacts. The calculation of the interaction energies indicate the importance of dispersion terms with the greatest energies calculated for the C—H⋯O and π-stacking interactions. Full Article text
si Crystal structure, Hirshfeld surface analysis and DFT studies of 6-bromo-3-(12-bromododecyl)-2-(4-nitrophenyl)-4H-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridine By scripts.iucr.org Published On :: 2020-04-21 The title compound, C24H30Br2N4O2, consists of a 2-(4-nitrophenyl)-4H-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridine entity with a 12-bromododecyl substituent attached to the pyridine N atom. The middle eight-carbon portion of the side chain is planar to within 0.09 (1) Å and makes a dihedral angle of 21.9 (8)° with the mean plane of the imidazolopyridine moiety, giving the molecule a V-shape. In the crystal, the imidazolopyridine units are associated through slipped π–π stacking interactions together with weak C—HPyr⋯ONtr and C—HBrmdcyl⋯ONtr (Pyr = pyridine, Ntr = nitro and Brmdcyl = bromododecyl) hydrogen bonds. The 12-bromododecyl chains overlap with each other between the stacks. The terminal –CH2Br group of the side chain shows disorder over two resolved sites in a 0.902 (3):0.098 (3) ratio. Hirshfeld surface analysis indicates that the most important contributions for the crystal packing are from H⋯H (48.1%), H⋯Br/Br⋯H (15.0%) and H⋯O/O⋯H (12.8%) interactions. The optimized molecular structure, using density functional theory at the B3LYP/ 6–311 G(d,p) level, is compared with the experimentally determined structure in the solid state. The HOMO–LUMO behaviour was elucidated to determine the energy gap. Full Article text

si Crystal structure and Hirshfeld surface analysis of 4-{[(anthracen-9-yl)methyl]amino}benzoic acid dimethylformamide monosolvate By scripts.iucr.org Published On :: 2020-04-24 The title compound, C22H17NO2·C3H7NO, was synthesized by condensation of an aromatic aldehyde with a secondary amine and subsequent reduction. It was crystallized from a dimethylformamide solution as a monosolvate, C22H17NO2·C3H7NO. The aromatic molecule is non-planar with a dihedral angle between the mean planes of the aniline moiety and the methyl anthracene moiety of 81.36 (8)°. The torsion angle of the Caryl—CH2—NH—Caryl backbone is 175.9 (2)°. The crystal structure exhibits a three-dimensional supramolecular network, resulting from hydrogen-bonding interactions between the carboxylic OH group and the solvent O atom as well as between the amine functionality and the O atom of the carboxylic group and additional C—H⋯π interactions. Hirshfeld surface analysis was performed to quantify the intermolecular interactions. Full Article text
si The crystal structures of Fe-bearing MgCO3 sp2- and sp3-carbonates at 98 GPa from single-crystal X-ray diffraction using synchrotron radiation By scripts.iucr.org Published On :: 2020-04-21 The crystal structure of MgCO3-II has long been discussed in the literature where DFT-based model calculations predict a pressure-induced transition of the carbon atom from the sp2 to the sp3 type of bonding. We have now determined the crystal structure of iron-bearing MgCO3-II based on single-crystal X-ray diffraction measurements using synchrotron radiation. We laser-heated a synthetic (Mg0.85Fe0.15)CO3 single crystal at 2500 K and 98 GPa and observed the formation of a monoclinic phase with composition (Mg2.53Fe0.47)C3O9 in the space group C2/m that contains tetrahedrally coordinated carbon, where CO44− tetrahedra are linked by corner-sharing oxygen atoms to form three-membered C3O96− ring anions. The crystal structure of (Mg0.85Fe0.15)CO3 (magnesium iron carbonate) at 98 GPa and 300 K is reported here as well. In comparison with previous structure-prediction calculations and powder X-ray diffraction data, our structural data provide reliable information from experiments regarding atomic positions, bond lengths, and bond angles.
